November's Better Than Yesterday Recipient

Each month the EHP coaching staff selects a member that is 'Better Than Yesterday!' The selected recipient is a great example of EHP's CREDO-- demonstrating compassion, resilience, perseverance and tenacity.

Lisa was selected as November's 'Better Than Yesterday' recipient.

Why did you start Elevate/CrossFit? 

I began just before I turned 50. I was in a workout rut, and wanted to do something that challenged me in a new way. I signed up for a “Bootcamp” and discovered that I really liked pushing myself in new ways.

Why do you continue CrossFit?  

I really enjoy working out. As I have gotten older, I have realized two things – first, I am determined to keep moving, no matter what hurdles show up and set me back. When you age, you realize even more how important it is to keep moving, to keep on going, no matter what. There is always some kind of movement one can do, even if sore, tired, or injured. Our bodies were made to move! Second, I actually can do things I never would have imagined I could do before I started CrossFit. I can do things like flip tires, squat snatch, push jerk, or deadlift and it feels good to get stronger. Feeling stronger and moving better keeps me doing CrossFit.

What has been your greatest achievement since joining EHP Performance? What has been my greatest achievement since starting EHP? Hmmm this one is hard. I have gone forwards and backwards a few times. I think my greatest achievement would be getting two PRs this past fall AFTER having a medical setback this past summer. I was terrified to return, afraid I would have a recurrence. I’m so grateful the coaches helped me keep moving so that I could get comfortable pushing myself again. Getting that heartrate back up into a high zone again feels terrific!

How has your life changed since joining EHP Performance? I have worked out with old friends in new ways. I have met new friends. I have discovered strengths I didn’t know I had, and I have learned that sometimes I get in my own way. The coaches’ confidence in me helps me keep pushing forward. I am stronger both physically and mentally after starting and continuing with CrossFit. I am grateful to EHP staff and members for helping the gym be a place that is motivating and fun!

Lisa was selected as the November BTY recipient because she has overcome a huge and scary hurdle this year and used it to reflect and better understand herself and her health and fitness journey. Lisa loves being coach and is super receptive to feedback. Lisa is very personable and easy going in class. She works has and made her recovery a priority.
